there's something about the way they pull shots at 1893 coffee & cream that makes the whole havelock avenue strip feel more intentional. maybe it's the steam wand's confident hiss, or how the crema sits thick and golden on every espresso. whatever it is, those 258 google reviewers giving it a 4.8 weren't being generous. this isn't another corporate outpost pushing burnt beans through automated machines. the baristas here actually taste what they're serving, adjusting grind size when the humidity shifts, taking time with each pour. regulars know to arrive early for the good pastries, but honestly, they'd come back even without food. the coffee stands alone. lincoln has plenty of places to grab caffeine. but 1893 understands the difference between fuel and ritual. between coffee and coffee worth savoring. that difference keeps people driving across town, parking on havelock, walking through that door again.
