denton has a coffee scene that punches above its weight, partly because university towns tend to attract people who take their cups seriously. aura coffee, on w hickory st, is one of the places that keeps that reputation honest. it's not trying to court every passing trend, and you get the sense that the regulars here have made real choices about where they spend their mornings. the neighborhood is quiet enough that the pace feels intentional rather than sleepy. denton's independent shops tend to hold themselves to a standard, and aura sits comfortably within that tradition without coasting on it. if you're anywhere near the hickory st end of town, an afternoon espresso here is a reasonable argument for staying a little longer.
