sometimes you need a place that doesn't ask anything of you. scratch that, we said never start the final sentence with "sometimes", let me just write this properly. ,- a slow tuesday morning on prinsgatan, and you're not in a rush for once. gothenburg does this well: pockets of the city where the pace drops without anyone making a point of it. bar italia sits in that category. locally well regarded, and for reasons that hold up on a second visit and a third. the coffee is taken seriously here, which you'll notice without needing it explained to you. it's a good place to open a laptop or just sit. not a tourist stop, not a destination with a capital d. just a reliable independent on a good street. if you're anywhere near the vasastan end of things, a morning cortado here is a reasonable way to start.
