still figuring out where to go for coffee in rome, and someone finally points you toward via emanuele filiberto. the esquilino quarter doesn't get the tourist foot traffic of the centro storico, which means the people who end up at bar trani are mostly there on purpose. that kind of regulars-first atmosphere tends to produce a certain consistency, the kind that comes from actually having to show up for the same crowd week after week. rome takes its espresso standing seriously in a way that can feel almost confrontational to outsiders, but bar trani sits comfortably inside that tradition without needing to announce it. very strongly regarded, and the neighborhood knows it. start with a morning espresso at the bar.
