bark 'n' bean keeps things genuinely local in a way that's harder to pull off than it sounds. hillsmere drive isn't a destination street, which probably suits the regulars just fine, and the shop sits close enough to the annapolis waterfront that you're never far from something worth walking to after your coffee. what you get here is a neighborhood place that takes its standing seriously without making a performance of it. independent spots in maryland's smaller cities either figure out their identity early or they don't, and this one clearly has. if you're in annapolis and you want something that feels unhurried, hillsmere drive on a weekday morning is a solid answer.
