belle does food and coffee with equal seriousness, which is rarer than it should be. a lot of places pick one and let the other coast. on armagh street, in the central city, you get the sense that neither side of that equation has been phoned in. the crowd that keeps coming back to 168 armagh isn't the kind that settles easily. christchurch has enough options now that loyalty means something. if you're after a flat white and something worth eating alongside it, this is a reasonable place to anchor your morning.
