portland takes its specialty coffee seriously, and the further you get from the pearl district and SE division, the more you start finding places that exist entirely on their own terms. cabana do cafe, on SE baseline st in hillsboro, is one of those. it sits in a part of the metro area that doesn't get the same coffee press as inner SE, but the regulars here clearly don't need the validation. you get the sense that the loyalty this place has built comes from consistency and genuine investment in the cup rather than any ambient hype. hillsboro has its own rhythm, and this cafe fits into it comfortably. if you're making the trip out to baseline st, go before the afternoon rush and give yourself time to sit with an espresso.
