you're on quay brae, a short steep street that drops toward portree's harbour on the isle of skye, and cafe arriba sits in the gladstone buildings just up from the water. this part of the island draws a lot of passing traffic, hikers and day-trippers who've come off the road from the fairy pools or the quiraing, and finding somewhere genuinely worth stopping at matters more than people admit. cafe arriba has built a real local reputation in a place where word travels fast and expectations aren't low. portree is small enough that a bad coffee shop doesn't last, and this one has. if you're coming in off a grey west highland morning, the flat white is a reasonable place to start.
