cafe solar does one thing particularly well: it shows up. not in the loud, look-at-us way, but consistently, on a stretch of manchester avenue that doesn't have a lot of reasons to slow down. the westchester area runs on commuters and airport traffic, and a place like this sits in that current without getting swept along by it. you can count on it in the way you count on a good neighborhood spot, where the coffee is taken seriously but nobody's performing seriousness at you. independent cafes live or die by daily decisions, and the ones here seem to be made with some intention. if you're heading toward lax or coming back from it, manchester ave at that block gives you a reason to stop before the terminal chaos kicks in.
