dudley's specialty coffee scene is smaller than its appetite for it, which means the places that do it well tend to matter more to locals than they would in a bigger city. caffè carluccio's, sitting just off halesowen street in blackheath, has built exactly that kind of local weight. the rowley regis end of the black country isn't where you'd necessarily expect to find an independent that takes coffee seriously, but here it is, and if you're passing through or making a deliberate stop, it holds up. the sainsbury's superstore address might not sound like destination material, but the standing it's earned in the area is genuine, not incidental. worth timing your visit around a flat white before the afternoon crowd rolls in.
