independence, missouri sits at an odd crossroads of suburban sprawl and old highway towns, and the coffee culture here has always had to work a little harder to find its footing. campus grounds, out on us highway 24 near buckner, has found its footing. the regulars here are loyal in the way that only happens when a place consistently holds its standard, not when someone's trying to get attention. you don't drive out to this stretch of east highway 24 by accident, which means the people who do show up tend to mean it. there's something grounding about a shop this far from a city center that doesn't feel like it's waiting to be discovered. the morning rush on that highway is real, and so is the coffee.
