specialty coffee at the edge of the north sea isn't a given. lerwick sits out on shetland, far enough from the mainland that you start to appreciate places that take quality seriously, and coffee culture on the esplanade does exactly that. the location matters more than it sounds: the esplanade runs right along the waterfront, which means the town is literally at your shoulder when you walk in. that kind of setting tends to filter out anything half-hearted. locals here have opinions, they come back, and a place doesn't hold a strong reputation in a small island town by coasting. if you're passing through lerwick or based here, the esplanade address is worth keeping in your pocket for a flat white on a grey shetland afternoon.
