the cortado is probably your best starting move here. cork & bean sits on 95th street in oak lawn, a stretch where good coffee isn't something you stumble into accidentally, so the fact that locals keep coming back says plenty. you get the sense that the menu is built around things they actually want to make, not a catalogue padded out to look impressive. the flat white and cold brew both seem to be consistent pulls for regulars, and a place with this kind of standing in a neighborhood like this doesn't hold that reputation loosely. worth going on a weekday morning when the pace is slower. the cortado, black, no fuss.
