if you're working through a slow tuesday morning and need somewhere to actually sit and think, hylton road isn't the obvious choice, but that's partly the point. craft coffee operates out of city life church on hylton road, sr4, which puts it slightly away from sunderland's centre and squarely in the kind of spot you find because someone told you about it, not because you stumbled past. the standing here is genuinely strong, and for a city that doesn't always get credit for its specialty coffee scene, that means something. you're not coming for spectacle. you're coming because the coffee is taken seriously and the setting gives you room to breathe. a good place to end up on a weekday morning with a cortado and nowhere pressing to be.
