the thing about diva espresso is how they've earned every one of those 370 reviews. up on greenwood avenue north, this isn't some coffee theater where baristas perform for instagram. it's the real deal. steam hisses from proper machines while regulars chat about weekend plans, and you can smell the difference in beans pulled with actual care. seattle has plenty of coffee shops. fewer have that lived-in quality where the barista remembers your usual without making a big show of it. diva gets the balance right between neighborhood hangout and serious coffee spot. their espresso has weight to it, that thick crema that tells you someone paid attention during extraction. chains can replicate recipes but they can't replicate the kind of place where you actually want to linger with the morning paper. that's harder to build.
