you're on el camino real, which sounds romantic until you're actually on it, a wide arterial road that runs the length of the peninsula with strip malls and parking lots doing most of the talking. douce france sits inside a small complex at 855, suite 104, and it's the kind of place that pulls you off that thoroughfare with something quieter going on inside. palo alto has no shortage of places to buy coffee, but well-regarded spots on this stretch are rarer than you'd think. locals have figured this one out, which is why it stays busy without having to advertise itself too loudly. if you're timing a visit, the morning hours on el camino are worth it before the road gets loud.
