good bakeries and good coffee don't always show up together. hillsboro's se 2nd ave is worth your time if you care about both. grand central bakery has built a real local following here, and the pastries are the honest reason. not a side note, not an afterthought. the baked goods carry actual weight in what this place offers, which is rarer than it sounds at spots that bill themselves as cafes first. you don't have to choose between a decent cup and something worth eating alongside it. come for a weekday morning before the SE 2nd corridor fills up, and leave with something from the pastry case.
