you're on gionmachi minamigawa, one of the older stretches of higashiyama ward, where the street still pulls a crowd even when the main tourist loop thins out. itoh kyuemon has built a quiet following here, the kind that doesn't need explaining to locals. kyoto has no shortage of places calling themselves specialty, but this one holds its ground in a neighborhood that's seen plenty of cafes come and go. you can arrive expecting the usual and find something more considered. the shop sits at 586 gionmachi minamigawa, close enough to the gion shijo bustle that you'll hear it, far enough that it doesn't feel like a concession stand for passing foot traffic. a good reason to stop before the afternoon crowds thicken.
