kavasutra does something most coffee spots in the east village don't bother with: it holds two things at once. kava and coffee, sitting side by side without apology. east 10th street draws a particular kind of person, someone who already knows what they want and doesn't need it sold to them, and kavasutra seems to understand that. you can walk in looking for a straight espresso or walk in curious about the kava side of the menu, and neither choice feels like the wrong room. independent, unhurried, specific in a way that takes some confidence to pull off. the address is 261 e 10th, and it's worth finding before the neighborhood decides it needs something louder in its place.
