you're on center street in berkeley, a block or two from the uc campus where the foot traffic shifts constantly between students, faculty, and people who've lived in this neighborhood long enough to have opinions about it. k's coffee house has built up a real local following here, which in berkeley means something, because this city has plenty of options and people aren't shy about ignoring the ones that don't hold up. you don't end up well regarded in a neighborhood like this by accident. the cafe sits at 2002 center, close enough to campus that it catches the morning rush but grounded enough in the surrounding streets that it doesn't feel transient. a good midmorning cup, unhurried, on center street.
