you're on henleaze road, which is the kind of residential stretch in north bristol where people actually live rather than pass through, and la scala sits right in the middle of it at number 87. the regulars here are devoted in a way that doesn't happen by chance at a place like this. it's not in the city centre, it's not convenient for tourists, so if you're making the trip to bs9, you already know what you're after. specialty coffee, taken seriously, in a neighbourhood that clearly wanted exactly this. the kind of place that fills a gap you didn't know your week had until it was there. go for a flat white on a weekday morning before henleaze road gets busy.
