there's something honest about a place that does two things well and doesn't apologize for either. lamar's donuts and coffee sits on main street like it belongs there, pulling regulars back with the kind of consistency that 1,170 google reviewers and a 4.5-star rating can't fake. the coffee here isn't trying to impress barista competition judges. it's trying to get you caffeinated and happy, which turns out to be harder than it sounds. you can taste the care in each cup, that attention to extraction and temperature that separates real coffee shops from corporate button-pushers. the donuts don't hurt either. kansas city has plenty of places that serve coffee, but fewer that understand the ritual of it. the steam rising from your cup, the first sip that tells you someone actually knows what they're doing behind the counter. this is neighborhood coffee at its best.
