lamill takes coffee seriously without making you feel like a student in someone else's class. that balance is rarer than it sounds. silver lake blvd has always attracted people who treat their neighborhood choices as mild extensions of their identity, and a shop that holds up under that kind of scrutiny has to be doing something right. you get the sense that the sourcing decisions were made carefully, that the menu wasn't thrown together. nothing here feels like a hedge. locals return, and locals in this part of los angeles are not an easy audience. if you're coming from the east side or cutting through from echo park, make the stop mid-morning, before the afternoon crowd picks up, and order the espresso straight.
