somewhere between the marais and the grandes boulevards, rue de turbigo moves fast. les turbines, at number 21, doesn't. that friction is the whole point. paris has no shortage of places selling espresso, but you don't come here because it's convenient, you come because the people running it clearly decided that good coffee was the only thing worth taking seriously. the regulars have figured this out, which is why the standing of this place is what it is. not loud about it, not performing anything. just consistent, specific work in a part of the 2nd arrondissement that rewards you for slowing down long enough to notice. if you're only passing through the quartier, make the detour. order the espresso and stay for it.
