slow mornings in ubud have a way of dissolving your plans, and jl. monkey forest doesn't fight that tendency. maha cafe/bar sits along one of the area's busiest corridors, which sounds like a drawback until you're actually there, settled in with somewhere to be and no real urgency to get there. the local reputation holds up, and for a street that sees a lot of tourist foot traffic, that's not a small thing. you can treat it as a pit stop between the monkey forest and the palace, or you can let it stretch into the better part of an afternoon. either way, the cortado is a reasonable place to start.
