mast coffee takes the coffee seriously. that's the whole thing, really. on shuter street, a block or two from the noise of yonge and the bustle spilling out of toronto metropolitan university, it sits in a part of downtown that doesn't usually reward slow mornings. mast gives you a reason to slow down anyway. the local reputation here didn't build on novelty or aesthetics alone, it built on consistency, on the kind of cup that makes you reconsider your usual order. toronto has no shortage of places calling themselves specialty, but not all of them back it up week after week. this one does. if you've got a morning free near shuter, start it here, with an espresso.
