cannon hill park is one of the better reasons to be in balsall heath on a weekday. midlands arts centre sits inside it, which means your coffee comes with the kind of outdoor space most city cafes can't offer, not because they're trying, but because they don't have 80 acres behind them. the standing here is genuinely local and genuinely earned, the kind of place that shows up in conversations about where to actually go, not just where to be seen. you don't need an occasion to visit. the park does the work of making an ordinary tuesday feel like a decent use of time, and the cafe holds its own against that backdrop. if you're nearby in the morning, it's a reasonable first stop before anything else.
