you're on prof. kazım ismail gürkan caddesi in sultanahmet, which means you're already somewhere most visitors walk straight through on their way to the blue mosque or topkapı. no:12 sits at that address like it has a point to prove, which it does. fatih is dense with history and noise and people who've been coming to this corner of istanbul for reasons that have nothing to do with coffee, and yet here's a specialty shop that holds its own in all that. regulars keep coming back, which in a neighborhood this transient is harder than it sounds. you don't earn that kind of loyalty by accident in sultanahmet. get there in the morning before the tour groups take over the street, and order your espresso while the caddesi is still quiet enough to actually taste it.
