still on lygon street, and worth the stop. padre coffee has built a reputation in brunswick east that goes beyond local loyalty, anchoring itself in single-origin work at a time when that still means something in this city. the focus is specialty coffee, properly sourced, and you can feel that in how seriously the place takes its offering without turning it into a lecture. brunswick east has its own pace, looser than fitzroy, less performative than collingwood, and padre fits that register. nothing here is trying to impress you with volume or novelty. if you're in the area on a weekday morning, lygon street is quieter than you'd expect, and that's not a bad time to slow down over a single-origin filter.
