the espresso here is the thing to start with, full stop. walter's ash isn't a neighbourhood you end up in by accident, sitting out on main road between the chilterns and high wycombe proper, so when a place on this stretch builds a genuine local following around a single drink, that means something. you don't need a long menu to do this well, and pony espresso seems to know that. the focus stays tight, the reputation holds, and for a spot this far off the beaten track that kind of consistency is harder to maintain than it looks. if you're making the detour out to hp14, go straight for the espresso.
