cold brew is a solid call here, especially if you're coming off the santa monica promenade and need something that doesn't require you to stand around waiting. rapha sits on 4th street, close enough to the beach corridor that it catches a lot of foot traffic, but it holds its own rather than bending to the crowd. locals have been coming back consistently, which tends to mean the coffee is actually good and the experience doesn't feel rushed or careless. you won't find the kind of overpromising that trips up a lot of spots trying to capitalize on a tourist-heavy zip code. for something warm, a latte is a dependable order. either way, 4th street in the morning is a genuinely decent place to start.
