los angeles has more coffee shops than most cities have restaurants, which means the bad ones survive on foot traffic and the good ones survive on people coming back. red window coffee, on ventura boulevard in studio city, is the kind of place people come back to. that stretch of the valley isn't where you'd expect a serious coffee operation to quietly build a loyal following, but here it is, doing exactly that. the regulars here are vocal about it, and that kind of word-of-mouth in a city with this much competition doesn't happen without something worth protecting. if you're in studio city, or just passing through the valley on a weekday morning, the espresso is the thing to start with.
