good coffee in nara takes a little finding, and nakanoshinyacho isn't the first street most visitors think to walk down. but amenokaku has built a real reputation in this city precisely because it operates as a roastery first, which means what ends up in your cup started as a deliberate decision about green coffee, not just a bag ordered from somewhere else. that process matters. nara-shi has no shortage of places to sit and drink something warm, but there's a difference between a café that buys roasted beans and one that controls the roast itself. locals here seem to know that. if you're spending time in the area, nakanoshinyacho 18 is worth the detour, especially for a filter coffee that reflects what the roastery is actually working with.
