you're on westgate road, which runs west out of newcastle city centre through neighbourhoods that don't make the tourist maps, and that's fine. the area has its own rhythm. shawarma fattoush sits at number 411, far enough from the quayside buzz that you have to mean it, have to actually be heading this way. and plenty of people do. locally, it's well regarded, the kind of place that builds a following without shouting about it, which in a city as opinionated about food and drink as newcastle says something. the coffee is specialty, taken seriously. if you're cutting through on westgate road at some point in the morning, it's worth knowing this one is there.
