you're on sw alder street, which means you're probably between somewhere and somewhere else, moving through downtown portland with half your attention already at your destination. spella caffè has a way of interrupting that. the shop sits at 608 sw alder, close enough to the core of the city that it pulls in people who work nearby, people passing through, people who've clearly done this before. regulars here tend to be the kind who notice when something's off, which is probably why they keep coming back, because nothing seems to be. portland has no shortage of places to get coffee, but the regulars at spella are unusually loyal, and that loyalty doesn't come from convenience alone. if you have a window in the late morning, sw alder is worth the stop for an espresso straight.
