what gets to you about brooklyn's coffee landscape is how scattered the good spots are. you'll walk blocks of mediocre before stumbling onto something that actually knows what it's doing. stnd coffee & cookies on manhattan avenue in greenpoint fits that pattern. this isn't some flashy operation trying to impress passersby with elaborate setups or theatrical brewing rituals. the regulars who keep coming back aren't drawn by spectacle. they're here because someone figured out how to pull shots that don't taste burnt and source beans that actually have character. greenpoint has plenty of cafes that look the part but fall short when it matters. this one reversed that equation. the cookies live up to their billing too, which shouldn't surprise anyone given how seriously they take the coffee side. late afternoon on manhattan avenue, espresso and something sweet.
