summit coffee gets the basics right, which is harder than it sounds. you can find a decent latte in most american cities, but finding one you actually want to sit with, on page ave in the middle of downtown asheville, where the foot traffic is real and the pressure to be a tourist trap is constant, that's a different thing. the grove arcade neighborhood pulls everyone through: locals running errands, people fresh off the river district, visitors figuring out where to eat lunch. summit holds its own in that mix without leaning too hard on the setting to do the work. if you're downtown on a weekday morning, this is where you start.
