cafe con pan is a combination you don't see pushed to the front of the menu very often in portland, and that's reason enough to start there. the bread and coffee pairing isn't a gimmick, it's the kind of thing that makes a short drive out along ne halsey feel like a reasonable idea on a weekday morning. wood village sits east of the city proper, past the point where most people stop looking, but the regulars here have clearly decided that's fine by them. you get the sense this place runs on repeat visits rather than foot traffic, which tends to produce a certain kind of consistency. if you're making the trip, make it count and time it for breakfast.
