the avenue deli does independent coffee without theatrics, and that restraint is the point. calcot isn't a neighborhood people usually associate with specialty coffee, which makes 100 royal avenue a genuinely useful find if you're in the rg31 area and tired of settling. the regulars here are loyal in the way that only happens when a place consistently delivers, not because the branding is clever or the location is convenient, but because the coffee is taken seriously week after week. you don't need a reason to make the trip out to calcot other than that. a good flat white on a weekday morning is reason enough.
