the coffee here is taken seriously, and you'll feel that quickly. the boathouse sits out on newbridge road, a bit removed from bath's tourist centre, which means the people who show up tend to actually want to be there. no one stumbles in by accident from the roman baths. that distance from the city core gives the place a different pace, quieter without being sleepy, unhurried in a way that's becoming harder to find anywhere. if you're coming from central bath, the walk or drive along the avon corridor is genuinely pleasant, and arriving feels like leaving the postcard version of the city behind. specialty coffee done without theatre. a good place to be on a slow morning with a flat white and nowhere particular to be by noon.
