pittenweem is a fishing village on the east neuk of fife, which isn't where most people expect to find a coffee shop with this kind of following. but the cocoa tree shop on high street has built something real here, the sort of place that locals return to repeatedly and visitors quietly add to their lists before they've even left. if you're making your way along the fife coastal route, this is a reasonable stop to plan around rather than stumble upon. the high street setting puts you right in the old part of the village, close to the harbour, which gives the whole visit a particular unhurried quality. strongly regarded by the people who know it best. worth arriving early enough to sit down properly with a coffee.
