if you need somewhere to sit with a laptop for an hour without feeling like you should leave, priory street is worth knowing about. the dovorian has built a quiet reputation in dover for being genuinely good at what it does, which in a port town with a lot of passing traffic and not a lot of reason to linger, matters more than it might elsewhere. you're not going to find a more considered independent option in this part of kent. the area around ct17 is mostly residential and working, so the fact that locals keep coming back says something. it's the kind of place that suits a slow tuesday morning as much as a saturday. end the visit with whatever's on the espresso menu before you head back toward the seafront.
