the loose caboose has built a genuinely loyal following, and that kind of thing doesn't happen by chance on south reserve street. missoula's commercial sprawl along that corridor isn't known for slow-down moments, but this place seems to function as one anyway. you get the sense that people here aren't stopping out of convenience, they're stopping on purpose. the regulars are consistent, vocal, and the sort who notice when something slips, which means the bar stays up. independent spots in montana either find their footing fast or they don't, and this one has clearly found it. if you're coming from the reserve street corridor, build in a few extra minutes for your morning coffee.
