the coffee here is taken seriously, and you can feel that almost immediately. shay lane isn't a destination street, but that's part of what makes the mill cafe worth the detour out to hx2. it sits in a part of halifax that doesn't get much specialty coffee attention, which means the locals who've found it tend to keep coming back with some loyalty. the focus stays tight: no sprawling menu trying to stretch in every direction, just good coffee done with real intention. if you're heading out that way, go in the morning before the day gets complicated, and order whatever's on the filter.
