if you've got a slow morning ahead and pecenongan isn't on your usual route, it probably should be. the oriental cafe sits at no. 72 on that stretch of jl. pecenongan in gambir, central jakarta, a part of the city that moves at its own pace and doesn't really need to prove anything. locals have found their way here consistently enough that the place has built a quiet, genuine reputation without any particular fanfare. you're not going to feel like you wandered into a concept. the coffee is taken seriously, the standing in the neighborhood reflects that, and gambir on a weekday morning is a good reason to arrive early and order something slow. a long black before the heat picks up is probably the right call.
