a coffee shop on a christmas tree farm isn't something you expect to find yourself recommending, and yet here we are. the pinecone sits out at templeton christmas tree farm in strathmartine, which puts it well outside dundee's centre, and that distance is the whole point. you're not stumbling in between meetings. getting there is a choice, and the people who make it tend to be glad they did. locally, it's built the kind of quiet reputation that doesn't need much explaining. the surrounding landscape does a lot of the work, too, though the coffee has to hold its own once you're inside. worth timing your visit for a weekday morning, when strathmartine road is unhurried and the farm itself feels like it belongs to no particular season.
