an industrial estate isn't where you'd expect to find a cafe worth going out of your way for, but blenheim road has a habit of surprising people. the runway cafe sits in ashbourne's airfield industrial estate, which sounds utilitarian, and it is, but that's part of what makes it work. no footfall from passing tourists, no prime high street location propping it up. the locals who turn up here are turning up specifically. ashbourne itself is a market town that doesn't need to perform for anyone, and this cafe fits that register well. well regarded in the area, consistently. if you're driving in from the peaks or cutting through de6 on a weekday morning, a flat white here is a solid reason to stop.
