sandown doesn't have a sprawling specialty coffee scene, which means the places that do take it seriously tend to matter more. the sundial, on culver parade, is one of those places. it's well regarded locally, and that kind of reputation on the isle of wight builds slowly, through return visits rather than passing trade. you're not stumbling into somewhere trying to coast on foot traffic from the beach. the coffee is the point. culver parade sits close enough to the seafront that the light through the windows shifts with the tide of the day, though the café itself stays its own thing regardless. worth stopping in before you head back out along the esplanade, coffee in hand.
