you're on walderslade road, which isn't the kind of street that usually draws people from outside the area, and that's fine. the village cafe works well precisely because it isn't trying to pull in a crowd that wasn't already heading this way. chatham's me5 pocket has its own pace, and this place fits it. what you get here is specialty coffee taken seriously in a setting that doesn't make a performance of it, which, honestly, is harder to find than it sounds. the local standing is genuine, built on repeat visits rather than novelty. if you're passing through walderslade on a weekday morning, the flat white is the right call.
