you're on washington avenue, which means you're probably moving fast, because this stretch of houston doesn't really slow down for anyone. the yellow cup is at the 6001 end, in a building that puts you close enough to the washington corridor's general noise to appreciate having somewhere to actually stop. houston's independent coffee scene has grown up considerably in the last decade, and spots like this one are part of why locals have stopped defaulting to chains for anything other than convenience. the coffee here gets taken seriously, and that reputation didn't accumulate by accident among a city this size and this opinionated about food and drink. if you're nearby on a weekday morning, an espresso before the avenue gets fully loud is a reasonable call.
